Day One - Tree House Adventure

Logging in on day one of my tree house construction adventure.
Auroville is a complicated place, but the way in which it has allowed a great many creative, social, spiritual and environmental enterprises to flourish is positive and inspiring. As I walked into the THC workshop to meet with Philipp I felt at once so excited and in awe. Suspended above the workshop courtyard stands a mighty tree with an impressive double levelled tree house, complete with a gently waving, natural wooden staircase leading to the door. In the courtyard, timber (which is sourced predominantly from THC managed land) lays in stacks on the far right, silently awaiting transformation into another Magical THC creation. Philipp explained that the majority of the wood they use comes from the trees they planted years ago on the land, a practice they still maintain today and which lends them a constant source of new and sustainably sourced timber. We took a walk through the workshop spaces, each gloriously stacked and organised with tools (used for tree house construction!? I still can't believe it's all real!). After the tour we spoke in the courtyard and began to discuss how the workshop might pan out. The start date for the course had been moved to Monday so a few more people would be able to join, but Philipp kindly offered to spend the free days teaching me some extra tree house related knowledge. We agreed to meet the following day at 8am in the forest where I'd get some special training on the chainsaw and learn about the trees in the local area as well as the ones the THC uses the most.
